A Japanese Theme
We have been busy of late, though nothing has stood out vividly till this evening's wedding.
Our quartet was hired for a full four hours this evening, at the Island Ballroom at Shangri'La. We started off with a string quartet performance on a stage built specially for us in the cocktail area, entertaining dignitaries that included the Japanese Finance Minister!
One of the guests was an accomplished pianist, so she performed Kanon in D on the piano with the rest of the string quartet for the first march in at the start of the dinner. After that, our cellist took over the piano, and the piano quartet performance got underway. The lovely bride was japanese, thus the whole evening had a japanese theme, including the music! That suited us fine, for our group has plenty of songs and themes from Japanese JPop, as well as compositions from Nomuo Uematsu, a composer literally worshipped by our resident cellist. :)
We were very kindly given a table to have some food too, between our performing sets, so we really played our heart out in gratitude. It was very thoughtful of the groom to do so, as we musicians are usually very hungry people due to the timing and nature of our work. So we performed a fantastic rendition of Eyes On Me for their second march in, composed by, who else, Nomuo Uematsu!
We performed other lovely japanese themes throughout the evening, including the theme from the animated movie Spirited Away, and it was very heartwarming when many guests came up to us at the end of the evening to thank us for the music we provided.
All in all, it was a job well done!
