An Octet at Chijmes

Our performance at Chijmes today was very interesting. The groom wanted an octet, four musicians and four singers, and we were supposed to perform various church hymns through the solemnization to the end of the lunch.

The groom needed me to bring my Yamaha Portasound as Chijmes did not have a piano. Though the portasound proved to be adequate, it did not allow me to play at my very best, since the keys are not weighted. I believe that it might be time for me to acquire a good digital piano, for me to provide an extra service to be rendered to clients who may require a digital piano in the future.

The acoustics at Chijmes was simply divine. It used to be a church hall, so the rounded arches allowed the singer's voices to be reverberated, just like a choir in a church! My singers had a fun time singing. They were so thrilled, they were even willing to sing jazz pieces like New York, New York and La Vie En Rose.

In all, it was most enjoyable, and my very first time working as an Octet.
